Consultative workshop on community-based CC response in Thanh Hoa Province

On December 14, a consultative workshop on community-base climate change response was co-held by GRET/CRD and the Coordination Office of Green Bamboo Project - Synergies Thanh Hoa  at the People's Committee of Quan Hoa District. There were thirty participants from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment , the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, TUSTA, the People's Committee of Quan Hoa District and Ba Thuoc District and other stakeholders.

Mankind is facing the risk of increasingly extreme weather incidents such as hotter surface temperature, severe drought, hurricanes and long-last flood. Climate change has been seriously affecting the production and daily lives of human globally, in which Vietnam is considered one of five most vulnerable countries to climate change. It is causing growing pressure and requires a long-term strategy which is community-based approach.

Model of sloping-land cultivation and anti-desertization in Ba Thuoc

The workshop aimed at raising awareness and exchange experience between participants through outcomes of practical models of bamboo forest conservation and rehabilitation, biogas and the application of organic fertilizer in agricultural intensification, organic vegetable production and sloping-land cultivation, etc. These models are implemented in Quan Hoa and Ba Thuoc District by GRET/CRD and Green Bamboo-Synergies project.

The workshop attracted the attention of local authorities, scientists and local people. It successfully gathered many pressing issues from the reality and suggested the solution for local authorities to contribute to the effort of environmental protection, forest conservation and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
