The 2012 theme for World Environment Day is Green Economy: Does it include you?
UN Environment Programme defines the Green Economy as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. In its simplest expression, a green economy can be thought of as one which is low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive.
On December 14, a consultative workshop on community-base climate change response was co-held by GRET/CRD and the Coordination Office of Green Bamboo Project - Synergies Thanh Hoa at the People's Committee of Quan Hoa District. There were thirty participants from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment , the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, TUSTA, the People's Committee of Quan Hoa District and Ba Thuoc District and other stakeholders.
The Prime Minister has officially announced Decision 2139/QĐ-TTgapproving the National Strategic Plan on Climate Change. The Decision states that climate change is one of the most serious challenges for humans, causing negative impacts on lives and livelihoods. Being one of the most vulnerable countries, Vietnam regards climate change as an urgent issue and key challenge in the upcoming time.
On 11 December 2011, representatives of 194 countries participating in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Durban, South Africa approved a new pathway for the fight against climate change in the coming decade.
People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province and Centre for Social Research and Development (CSRD) will co-host the Workshop "Thua Thien Hue Province with action plan, projects in climate change adaptation" taking place on December 20th, 2011 in Hue city, Vietnam.

Under the framework of the project "Capacity Building on Climate Change for Civil Society Organizations in Vietnam" funded by the Embassy of Finland, a training workshop on "Community forest management in the context of climate change" will be held from August 22 to 25, 2011 in Hanoi for Vietnamese staff working for local and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other civil society organizations.
